WARNING about removing the SP1 Beta uninstall Information to free up disk space!

There are some recent Blog posts that describe a command that will completely remove all of the uninstall information for the Service Pack 1 Beta to free up some disk space. Some of these blog posts do not go far enough when describing the consequences of using this procedure.

7

Please remember that if you have the Service Pack 1 Beta installed on Windows 7/Server 2008 R2, that you will be Required to uninstall the SP1 Beta before you can install the Final (RTM) version of SP1 when it is released.

Just to be perfectly clear, if you use that command to remove the SP1 Beta Uninstall information, you will be required to completely reinstall Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2, or use a complete System Image Backup, created prior to installing the SP1 Beta, before you can install the Final (RTM) version.

Please consider this information carefully before using that command.

No Internet Connection Error during installation of Windows Live Essentials Beta 2011 fix

Yesterday an update to Windows Live Essentials 2011 beta was released. And while installing some faced problem where they were getting the error message “No Internet Connection…” and the installation failed even though they were connected to net. It was happening even using the Full offline installer.

Today they have fixed it and they have posted this -

“A fix for the "no internet connection" error you encountered has been released.  Please retry and reply if you continue to see errors in your installation experience.

Root cause is that we added functionality to the Windows Live Installer to also install language resources matching the Windows OS language and mistakenly included references to languages that are not available until the final Windows Live release.  Users installing on an OS language other than one of the nine languages released for Windows Live would have encountered this failure (English is just another language and not a unique cause of this error).

We apologize for the negative experience and inconvenience and appreciate you using Windows Live and for providing feedback.  From this, we are updating our release tools to detect and avoid this problem in the future and investigating changing our error messages to be more helpful.”

HTML5, Modernized: Fourth IE9 Platform Preview Available for Developers

IE9 started from the premise that the modern web will deliver HTML5 experiences that feel more like native applications than sites. Building on hardware-accelerated SVG, canvas, video, audio, and text, developers will use the power of the whole PC to achieve great performance. On the modern web, developers will use the same markup across different HTML5 browsers.
